Shellac is a hybrid nail polish, a mixture of gel and nail polish. Shellac is applied like normal nail polish, but is cured under a UV or LED lamp, which makes the polish solid.

Shellac is valued for its resilience and durability and is therefore often used for toenails that are exposed to the rigours of walking in closed shoes.

Procedure for applying Shellac to toenails

  • Cleaning and degreasing the toenails
  • Carefully push back the proximal nail fold
  • Careful removal of the cuticle from the proximal nail plate
  • Filing the nails into shape
  • Lightly roughen the nail plate with the buffer so that the Shellac can adhere well
  • Apply a thin layer of Shellac base coat, coating the free edge of the nail well to prevent it from chipping later on
  • Curing the Shellac base coat in the UV lamp

French pedicure with Shellac

With French white, after applying the natural-coloured or rosé Shellac base coat, the free nail edge is painted with a white Shellac and cured under a UV lamp.

The subsequent application of a top coat results in a glossy, hard-wearing surface that is scratch and impact resistant, ideal for holidays and special occasions.

The final curing in the UV lamp makes Shellac resistant to chipping and scratching and ensures a long-lasting pedicure that can withstand daily wear and tear.

Shellac also dries immediately under the UV lamp. This saves you the time and waiting for drying that is necessary with normal nail polish.

Once the shellac has hardened, you can stand up and walk immediately without risking smudging the nail polish on your toenails.

Finally, the toes are lubricated with a moisturising cream to keep the surrounding skin supple.
